15 Years of Terraria: This Legendary Sandbox Game Has Sold Over 70 Million Copies
Terraria officially celebrated its 15th anniversary on May 17, 2026. Along with this special moment, Re-Logic also shared a number of recent achievements that demonstrate the immense influence of this legendary 2D sandbox game in the gaming industry.
First released in 2011, Terraria is known as a 2D action-adventure sandbox game that offers a world full of freedom. In the game, almost every element in the game world can be destroyed, giving players ample space to fight, explore, build, and experiment with their own playstyle.
Although it was once said that the last update was Journey’s End in 2020, Terraria has not truly stopped evolving. After that, various additional content continued to be released, proving that the game remains alive and actively supported by its developers. Even in January 2026, Terraria received a major update that added Japanese language support for the PC version.
In its latest announcement, Re-Logic revealed that Terraria's total sales have now exceeded 70 million copies. This is an extraordinary achievement, not only for an indie game but also when compared to many other major games in the industry.
Not stopping there, Terraria's player performance remains very strong. Over the past year, the average daily player count on PC reached 461,000, with peak player numbers even surpassing 1.4 million. This data confirms that Terraria still has a very active and loyal community 15 years after its release.
Re-Logic also reaffirmed its commitment to continue delivering updates in the future. One of the features being prepared is cross-play or cross-platform support, which will make it easier for players to play together across various devices. Additionally, the development team is also preparing a number of ideas for the next update.
As part of the 15th anniversary celebration, Re-Logic has also prepared some special products, including the Terraria 15th Anniversary Collector’s Edition and the book Terraria Design Works. Both will serve as a form of appreciation for fans who have followed the game's journey since the beginning.
