A Legendary Franchise Continues to Evolve
Dragon Ball originated from the manga by Akira Toriyama, which was first published in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1984 and serialized for over a decade. To date, the Dragon Ball manga has sold over 260 million copies worldwide, making it one of the most influential and successful manga series of all time.
The popularity of Dragon Ball has endured through various adaptations, from television anime series, feature films, games, to numerous other multimedia projects, even after the original manga serialization concluded.
The resurgence of Dragon Ball feature films began in 2013 after a 17-year hiatus and achieved consecutive box office success. This success continued with the release of Dragon Ball Super in 2015, developed based on Akira Toriyama’s original concept.
In 2022, the film Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero was released, followed by the television anime Dragon Ball DAIMA, which aired from October 2024 to February 2025. Now, with the announcement of Dragon Ball Super: Galactic Patrol, the franchise reaffirms its existence as one of the greatest icons in anime and manga history.
