Not ‘Samurai’, Yasuke in Assassin’s Creed Shadows Japan Version on Steam is Called ‘Warrior’
Assassin’s Creed Shadows Japan Version on Steam Calls Yasuke a ‘Warrior’, Not ‘Samurai’.
There has been a change in describing Yasuke in the game Assassin’s Creed Shadows. This change occurred in the Japanese version available on Steam.
On the Steam page for the Japanese region, the description of the game Assassin’s Creed Shadows is slightly different from other regions. While in other regions Yasuke is referred to as the “Legendary Samurai”, in the Japanese version he is called “Warrior”.
Upon further investigation, it turns out that the change in the game description was made about a week ago by Ubisoft for the Japanese region. They made the change because many people in Japan protested the reference to Yasuke as Samurai. The reason being, there are specific requirements that must be met for someone to be called a Samurai according to Japanese history and culture, especially in the context of Yasuke.
