The World's First Pokémon Airport to Open in Japan in July 2026
The world's first Pokémon airport will open in Japan in July 2026. Noto Satoyama Pokémon With You Airport features Pikachu decorations, Flying-type Pokémon, and unique tourism experiences in Ishikawa.
Ishikawa Prefecture, together with the Pokémon With You Foundation, officially announced on May 14 that Noto Satoyama Airport will temporarily reopen under the new name “Noto Satoyama Pokémon With You Airport”, starting July 7, 2026 until the end of September 2029. This move makes the airport the world's first airport to bear the Pokémon name.
This initiative is part of an ongoing collaboration between the prefectural government and the foundation to support children affected by disasters, while also promoting the recovery of the tourism sector in the Noto region.
A Pokémon-Themed Airport Full of Cheerful Vibes
The airport's new look will feature a bright and spirited design. Its official logo combines elements of a Poké Ball, Pikachu, and the silhouette of the Noto Peninsula, with visual touches depicting the happy smiles of locals and tourists.
In the second-floor atrium, one of the airport's architectural highlights, visitors will be greeted by an eye-catching installation featuring giant Pikachu and airplane balloons. Surrounding them, various Pokémon will appear to be flying freely in the air, creating a lively and joyful atmosphere.
Additionally, the entire atrium area and various corners of the airport will be decorated with 111 Flying-type Pokémon discovered up to May 2026.
Disaster Recovery Art in the Arrival Area
In the first-floor arrival lobby, visitors will find a large decoration featuring a piece of art titled “A Bright Future”. This artwork was created in 2024 as a gesture of support for Noto's recovery after the disaster.
The illustration depicts the natural beauty and unique landscapes of Noto, welcoming tourists to the region. At the center of the artwork, Pikachu, Plusle, and Minun appear as three-dimensional sculptures, symbolizing warmth and hope.
The airport's logo will also be installed on the exterior of the building, while the pillars at the entrance will be adorned with rows of Pokémon to create a joyful atmosphere from the moment visitors arrive.
Decorations Spread Throughout Many Areas of the Airport
The Pokémon-themed experience doesn't stop at the main terminal area. Decorations will also be present at the building's entrances and exits, the jet bridges leading to planes, and the second-floor walls, showcasing illustrations of Pokémon's daily lives as if they were happening in airports around the world.
Several signs and indicators inside the airport will also be redesigned with a Pokémon theme, making visitors' entire journey more enjoyable and memorable.
At the airport's observation deck, visitors will see a group of Pikachu gathered to form an image of the satoyama landscape, reflecting the natural identity of Noto that is part of the airport's name.
Pokémon-Themed Buses Ready to Operate in Ishikawa
In addition to airport decorations, starting mid-July after the opening, two buses from the Hokuriku Railroad Group will operate around Ishikawa Prefecture with Pokémon-themed designs. The presence of these buses is expected to expand the Pokémon-themed tourism experience beyond the airport and encourage more visitors to explore the region.
A Symbol of Hope for Noto
The presence of “Noto Satoyama Pokémon With You Airport” is more than just a project themed around a popular character. Beyond that, this initiative serves as a symbol of support for Noto's recovery, as well as a creative way to revitalize the spirit of the community and the region's tourism appeal.
