Denis Villeneuve Selected as the Director of the Next James Bond Film
On June 25, 2025, Amazon MGM Studios officially announced that the Quebec-born director, Denis Villeneuve, will lead the 26th James Bond film project, which is the first Bond film since Amazon fully acquired the rights and production.

Villeneuve is known for his unique ability to revitalize major franchises, such as Blade Runner 2049 and the Dune series. In his statement, he revealed that it was a special pride for him, and Villeneuve also affirmed his commitment to “respect the tradition” while paving “the way for many new missions ahead.”
This film is the result of a collaboration between Amazon MGM Studios and producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman, replacing the long era of Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson.
June 2025 marks the official confirmation of the director selection, as well as signaling a new era post-Daniel Craig. The film is likely to be released at the end of 2027 or early 2028, considering Villeneuve’s busy schedule currently working on Dune: Messiah and other projects like the Cleopatra biopic and an adaptation of Arthur C. Clarke’s work.
Denis Villeneuve, who has already proven himself in the realm of epic and science fiction films, now bears a great responsibility as the director for the new era of the James Bond Franchise. With full support from Amazon MGM and an approach that respects the roots of Bond’s tradition while remaining open for exploring new stories, this announcement becomes an important moment for 007 fans worldwide.
