The Pokémon TCG “30th CELEBRATION” Expansion Releases on September 16 to Celebrate the 30th Anniversary
The Pokémon TCG “30th CELEBRATION” expansion releases on September 16 with special holo cards, 30 different Pikachus, and a new rarity called FUR.
The Pokémon Trading Card Game will celebrate its 30th anniversary through a special expansion pack titled “30th CELEBRATION”, scheduled for simultaneous worldwide release on Wednesday, September 16. This expansion is prepared as a celebration of the iconic card game’s long journey, featuring various special cards designed for this historic moment.
One of the main attractions of this set is that all cards will come in holo format. Additionally, a new rarity level called “FUR” (Futuristic Rare) will be introduced, featuring cards with lively illustrations that depict hopes for an unknown future. The FUR illustrations for the 30th anniversary of the Pokémon Trading Card Game were created by graphic artist YOSHIROTTEN, who provided a unique visual touch to mark this special occasion.
In terms of gameplay, several new cards also stand out. Mew ex comes with an Ability called “Memory Spiral”, allowing it to use any attack from a Benched Pokémon. Meanwhile, Mewtwo ex is equipped with the attack “Photon Bullet”, which deals 50 damage to each opposing Pokémon ex. The presence of these cards adds appeal for both collectors and competitive players.
To celebrate the 30th anniversary, Pokémon has also prepared 30 variations of holo Pikachu cards with different illustrations. Each pack from the “30th CELEBRATION” expansion is guaranteed to contain one of these 30 Pikachu cards, allowing collectors to enjoy Pikachu artwork from 30 different illustrators. This is one of the most anticipated elements of this celebratory set.
Additionally, there will be 30 special cards representing the 30-year history of the Pokémon Trading Card Game. These cards include popular names like Charizard from the Pocket Monsters Card Game series, Pikachu & Zekrom-GX from the Pokémon Card Game Sun & Moon series, and a total of 30 other cards released with special processing. Although these reprint cards cannot be used in the current Standard regulation format, they can still be used in any format that legally allows their original versions.
Other cards announced in this expansion include Lapras, Drifblim, Lycanroc, Hisuian Zorua, Espeon, Umbreon, Sylveon ex, and Greninja ex. The presence of these iconic Pokémon further enriches the set and offers many exciting choices for fans.
Since its initial release in 1996 as the first full-scale original TCG in Japan, the Pokémon Trading Card Game has continued to grow into one of the most popular card games. The game allows players to build 60-card decks by freely combining Pokémon and support cards. To this day, it remains beloved by both children and adults, complete with various events and tournaments across the country.
Since around the summer of 2018, the popularity of the Pokémon Trading Card Game has surged significantly. Products released often sell out quickly and become media highlights, proving that its appeal remains strong to this day. With the release of the “30th CELEBRATION” expansion, Pokémon seems to affirm that the legacy of this three-decade-old card game continues to thrive and evolve.
