Electronic Arts (EA) has decided to close Origin Store
The online game store from Electronic Arts (EA) will shut down permanently on April 17, 2025, after 14 years online.
This decision was announced by EA through a statement on the online support page for EA Apps, which is now used by the publisher of Need for Speed. The closure of Origin itself is due to Microsoft's discontinuation of support for 32-bit based software.
This makes sense, as EA's old online store was still built on a 32-bit architecture, while EA Apps has transitioned to 64-bit in line with the latest Windows. EA also mentioned that users still using Origin are encouraged to switch to EA Apps, including for their game collections and save files via the cloud.
