Browser Games Can Now Go Fullscreen on Safari
With iOS 26 Safari, browser games can now be played fullscreen.

With the update in iOS 26, Safari now supports fullscreen mode for games without address bars or top UI elements, making the browser gaming experience feel more like a native app. Combined with WebGPU, this small change can have a big impact: opening direct access to iOS users, equalizing cross-platform experiences, and reducing reliance on app stores.
In iOS 26, Safari gains the ability to display browser games in true fullscreen mode. This means when a game runs in this mode, there is no search bar, no site header, and no distracting Safari UI elements — only the game content fills the screen. This difference is more than cosmetic: it removes the “browser” footprint and resembles the experience of an installed app.
Fullscreen mode becomes more meaningful when combined with WebGPU, a modern graphics API for the web. WebGPU enables faster rendering and better GPU control compared to older web APIs.
