KADOKAWA and note: Building the Future of the Creator Economy in the AI Era
Japanese entertainment giant KADOKAWA Corporation officially announced a strategic capital and business alliance with content platform note Inc. on March 24, 2026. This significant move is aimed at building a next-generation Intellectual Property (IP) ecosystem specifically designed to address the challenges and opportunities in the era of artificial intelligence (AI).
This partnership aims to create a more supportive environment for creators, where the processes of creation, distribution, and copyright protection are integrated into a sustainable cycle.
Synergy of Two Media Powers
The alliance brings together two major forces with distinct yet complementary characteristics:
- KADOKAWA Group: Known as a global creative platformer expert in media mix strategies. They have a long track record of transforming stories into global phenomena through publishing, anime, games, and films.
- note Inc.: One of Japan's largest creator economy platforms. As of November 2025, the platform hosts over 69 million pieces of content from 11 million registered users, making it a primary hub for User Generated Content.
Both companies agree that the integration of KADOKAWA's professional editorial expertise and note's technological infrastructure will create significant new value in the creative industry.
Four Main Pillars of Collaboration
In their official release, the two companies outlined four main focus areas for this collaboration:
1. Transforming Content into High-Value IP KADOKAWA and note will accelerate the adaptation process of popular works on the note platform into physical and digital books. Beyond that, this collaboration also targets the development of more flexible "digital-first" content models, including merchandise production and offline event organization to maximize creator revenue.
2. Digital Transformation (DX) of Publishing KADOKAWA will adopt the "note pro" Software as a Service (SaaS) infrastructure to optimize their website operations. In addition to cost efficiency, this synergy will leverage note's SEO capabilities and AI-based search system to expand reader reach.
3. Data Fairness in the AI Era Addressing the issue of data usage for AI training, both companies are involved in the "GENIAC" project initiated by the Japanese government. The focus is on building a fair data distribution infrastructure, ensuring copyright holders receive equitable economic value for works used in AI models.
4. Strengthening Community and Multimedia To deepen the interaction between creators and fans, the note platform will begin integrating KADOKAWA's video and audio distribution technologies. This step is expected to open up new monetization opportunities for creators through more interactive multimedia content.
