Love And Deepspace: Who is Astra?

Astra is a god in the myth of Love And Deepspace. Although not much is explained about Astra's figure, some things can be known through the main story branches and Zayne's memory cards. One of them, Astra is clearly depicted as a very powerful and vengeful figure.

Astra knows the fate of every individual and has the power to bestow a portion of his strength to those he chooses, namely the Seer. He is also known as a god full of wrath, who does not hesitate to punish His servants if they rebel. Winter punishes every wrongdoing.

Although Astra sets strict rules for His divine servants and punishes them for violations, Astra cannot fully control them to act according to His will. For example, when the Seer gives Creatio Protocore to MC, his lover, to save their lives.

Moreover, although Astra seems to be recognized as a god in Philos, there is no direct interaction with Astra in the prologue story of Love and Deepspace. In fact, it seems that in Linkon, Astra is not recognized as a god at all.

How is Astra Connected to Zayne?

Astra only appears in the narrative through the lens of Zayne's incarnation. He appears as the main character in Zayne's myth story, Tower of Secrets.

In Tower of Secrets, Zayne is known as the Foreseer, a prophet blessed with the ability to see everything, thanks to Astra's power. Zayne is also tasked with being the messenger of Astra's divine will, conveying what the god desires.

Under Astra's command may the Foreseer deliver His will, for that is his fate. — Philos: Tome of the Foreseer

Astra shows His full wrath when the Seer violates His will and saves MC, a girl suffering from Cryoriasis—a disease that gradually freezes her body from within. At the end of the myth, it is revealed that the Seer has met and fallen in love with MC in every life, although in the end, he always dies.

Astra has suppressed every memory the Seer has of MC, and it remains unclear whether this was done to protect the Foreseer or to keep him obedient to Astra's will.

However, when the Foreseer discovers that MC is his lover in every life, he defies Astra's will and saves MC using the power of Creatio Protocore—a magical object that Astra provided to imprison the Foreseer and grant him strength.

Astra only appears once in the main story, specifically in Zayne's main story branch Thorns Under The Moon. Although Astra does not appear physically, his voice is heard in the Dreamscape, where Zayne is trapped.

When Zayne is forced to face illusions of his past trauma—due to the effects of Protofield the Wanderer trapping him through Myst—he hears Astra's voice warning him not to get involved with MC.

You shouldn't throw yourself into danger just for her / Seek your destiny. Only then can you be redeemed.

Although the meaning of Astra's second statement is not directly explained, there is an impression that until Zayne ends his involvement with MC, he will not receive support from Astra and will be trapped in endless suffering.

Since fate is considered absolute, Astra is likely to forgive Zayne only if he reaches a certain conclusion desired by Astra. Given that Zayne has been a tool for Astra through various incarnations, this could be another way for Astra to try to reclaim his beloved disciple.
