Love And Deepspace: Who is Dawnbreaker?
Dawnbreaker is the embodiment of Zayne who appears several decades in the future. While the exact reason why these two men are connected since the age of twelve is unknown, their relationship seems to have existed for a long time and continues throughout time.
On Zayne's twelfth birthday, his adoptive father suddenly turned into a monster before his eyes. Zayne saw him kill his adoptive mother and immediately attack Zayne too. Out of fear, Zayne didn't know what to do, so he used his Evol and summoned black ice shards to fight his adoptive father.
That very night, Dawnbreaker began dreaming about Dr. Zayne. He saw Dr. Zayne in Akso hospital, taking care of a girl. He often dreamed of Dr. Zayne caring for patients and spending time with that girl (MC). Those dreams became the only warm moments in his cold, death-filled life.
But, decades ago, Dr. Zayne also dreamed about Dawnbreaker. The difference was that Dr. Zayne's dream was dark and frightening, showing many horrors that Dawnbreaker had seen and the brutal murders he committed.
Dr. Zayne didn't know all the stories behind Dawnbreaker's life, but he realized he never wanted to be like that. He didn't want to kill to be seen as good. Instead, he wanted to study medicine and save as many lives as possible. Dawnbreaker wanted the same, but he lived in a world that made that impossible.
Feeling it was his duty to freeze the ‘Abominations’ - the unfortunate souls that had turned into Wanderers - Dawnbreaker began to cleanse the city by killing anyone who showed signs of change.
Living amidst death, Dawnbreaker Zayne became a cold and solitary figure. He no longer had friends or family. No one knew him except the police, and even they only knew him as a serial killer dubbed ‘Dawnbreaker’. No one knew the truth behind all those murders. No one knew the figure behind that name.
Who is Georgie?
Georgie is an eleven-year-old boy, and his mother works at the Protocore Factory. After his mother was fired, the two of them struggled to meet their daily needs.
One night, in a dark alley, Georgie and his mother were trapped by a terrifying monster, an Abomination. In a desperate attempt to protect her child, Georgie's mother threw Georgie aside and ran into the arms of the monster. That was when Dawnbreaker appeared.
In a brutal way, he shot black ice shards at the monster, and in an instant, the monster was destroyed along with Georgie's mother. The monster turned into shards of black dust, but unfortunately, Georgie's mother lay still on the ground.
Georgie was very confused and began to wonder if the one who killed the monster was the Grim Reaper? But when he asked Zayne who he was, Zayne simply looked coldly and left Georgie alone in the alley.
Georgie was sure that Dawnbreaker had saved him by killing the monster, so he was determined to seek that mysterious man again. He wanted Dawnbreaker's help to find the person who had killed his mother.
For several days, Georgie kept trying to talk to Zayne, but always failed. Until one day, Georgie brought a bottle of chocolate to the front door of Zayne's house. Zayne, although somewhat reluctant, eventually accepted the chocolate and allowed Georgie to stay with him.
They began to spend time together, and Georgie only knew a little about Zayne. He knew Zayne liked chocolate, took care of jasmine flowers, didn't celebrate his birthday, and had dreamed of becoming a doctor since he was twelve.
Zayne talked about his dream of being Dr. Zayne in Linkon after Georgie experienced a nightmare. They discussed the meaning of dreams and nightmares, and Georgie quoted his mother's words that said, "Dreams are the opposite of reality."
When Dawnbreaker saw the bulge under Georgie's eye, he realized that the boy would become a wanderer. He prepared ice shards behind his back, but Georgie said that tomorrow was his twelfth birthday. Georgie wanted to celebrate it with Zayne.
The next day, Zayne took Georgie to a dessert shop, where they shared a birthday cake. During the celebration, Zayne asked Georgie, "What does it mean if someone sees the sunset but feels nothing?" Georgie answered, "Then it feels like dying."
But suddenly, several armed police officers entered the dessert shop with the intent to capture Dawnbreaker. At that moment, Georgie began to transition into an Abomination, and Zayne was forced to kill the little boy with ice shards.
After that, Zayne went to the graves of Georgie and his mother. There, the same detective who almost caught them came to talk to Zayne. The detective confessed that he believed humans could turn into Abominations similar to wanderers.
The detective promised to stop investigating Dawnbreaker and erase all records of him from the world, so Zayne could continue to cleanse the streets of Abominations.
How is Dawnbreaker Connected to Zayne?
Even though Dawnbreaker, Zayne, and Dr. Zayne share the same face, name, and voice, they are actually not the same person. Dawnbreaker comes from several decades in the future, in a world where wanderers roam the streets, no longer human.
But, they both share glimpses of each other's lives through dreams.
Dawnbreaker sees Zayne's life in jumbled snippets when he dreams. Because his life feels so dark compared to Zayne, he lives only for dreams of a better world. In his dreams, he witnesses Zayne's journey in medical school, beautiful memories with his family, and most importantly, Zayne's memories of MC.
However, Dr. Zayne only sees Dawnbreaker's memories in recurring nightmares. In those nightmares, he witnesses Dawnbreaker killing MC with black ice shards, just before he turns into a Wanderer. He views Dawnbreaker as a warning and fears that one day he will also become like him.
In the main storyline, "Thorns Under The Moon," Dr. Zayne is pulled into this recurring nightmare by a wanderer known as Myst. He and MC are trapped in Dawnbreaker's dark world, which is a personal torment for Dr. Zayne.
To keep Zayne in the real world, MC tells him the same thing that Georgie's mother did
Dreams are the opposite of reality.
Zayne and MC eventually manage to escape the dream realm, but at the end of "Thorns Under The Moon," Zayne again experiences nightmares about Dawnbreaker killing MC. Each time that nightmare appears, he finds it increasingly difficult to distinguish where Dawnbreaker ends and where he begins.
Some players even theorize that as the main story progresses and Zayne's Evol becomes increasingly uncontrollable, Zayne gradually starts to merge with Dawnbreaker. Although there is no definitive evidence for this, with the growing number of story chapters and memories involving Dawnbreaker, it could indeed happen.
