Love And Deepspace: Who is Zayne?
Zayne is a 27-year-old heart surgeon living in Linkon City. He and the MC have been friends since childhood, but after several years apart, they finally meet again in Linkon. Zayne becomes the MC's primary care doctor at the request of his grandmother, Josephine.

Zayne is also the third tallest among the main characters, standing six feet two inches (187.96 cm) tall. His Evol ability is ice manipulation. He can summon ice and snow, as well as cool various objects.
Personality
Zayne's demeanor may seem cold and solitary on the outside, but he actually has a warm heart and a strong drive to help others.
He is the type of person who is a workaholic, but on his rare days off, Zayne enjoys skiing, trying out new restaurants, and spending time with the MC.
As a surgeon, Zayne deeply cares about health. He runs every morning, avoids alcohol, and generally eats regularly. However, he is notoriously fond of sweet foods, which often leads him to the dentist.
Despite appearing stoic, serious, and even intimidating to some, Zayne actually has a fairly dry sense of humor. He enjoys movies and jokes like anyone else, only he is more reserved.
Work Life
Zayne is a cardiologist and heart surgeon at Akso Hospital. Thanks to his dedication and hard work in caring for patients with Protocore Syndrome, Zayne has earned much praise for his hospital.
He has received various medical awards, including the prestigious Starcatcher Award and the Linde Award, where he became the youngest recipient. However, despite the numerous accolades he receives, Zayne is never motivated by such things.
While in school, Zayne met Carter, another brilliant medical student who had the same professor. Although they never met face to face, Carter was very interested in experimental sciences that used Protocores to enhance human abilities.
Carter believed that implanting Protocores into humans was a way not only to save lives but also to enhance them. This radical viewpoint led him to join Xander Sciences, a research company that was recently acquired by Ever. At Xander Sciences, Carter would receive full funding for his experiments on humans.
Zayne is also still researching the effects of Protocores on humans. He and Dr. Noah, his former professor, are conducting this research in the Arctic near Mount Eternal.
Zayne's research focuses on finding ways to save humans from the damaging side effects of Protocore and to prevent certain Protocore crystals from turning humans into Wanderers. Through this study, Zayne and Dr. Noah have discovered methods to halt human development into Wanderers by removing the infectious crystals.
Zayne's Past
Zayne has known the MC and his family since he was very young. The MC's parents are old friends of his grandmother, Josephine. At that time, Zayne was a soft-spoken and serious young boy, and he did not get into much trouble unless the MC (and perhaps his stepbrother, Caleb) pulled him into it.
Zayne and the MC spent their time as children going to the park, eating popsicles, and playing games. Before his family kept him away from the MC, Zayne once gifted two baby seals that he made of snow using his Evol.
Because his control over his Evol was not perfect, the MC thought the seals were just balls of snow, and Zayne still remembers that fact to this day.
One time, when the MC was around eight or nine years old, they were playing together when Zayne suddenly lost control of his Evol. The MC suffered severe injuries in that incident, but he has no memory of the event, unlike Zayne, who still feels guilty for having hurt him to this day.
Since then, Zayne has lost control of his Evol multiple times. Even though he has found ways to cope with his breakdowns (or in his case, cooldowns), Zayne still occasionally loses control of his Evol, especially when he experiences strong emotions or exertion. One example is in his memory card, Zayne: Absolute Zeal, where rime forms on the window beside him and the MC during their intimate meeting.
Both of Zayne's parents are doctors, and he decided to follow in their footsteps by becoming a heart surgeon. With his calm demeanor and strong determination, Zayne quickly outperformed his classmates and colleagues, eventually becoming the best heart surgeon in his field.
Although he loves and admires his parents deeply, Zayne is rarely close to them. His parents' career often takes them abroad to remote places for extended periods. As a result, Zayne often feels lonely and seldom celebrates his birthday or holidays with his family.
Dawnbreaker
Zayne's fear of hurting those he loves is exacerbated by recurring nightmares that have haunted him since he was twelve. In these nightmares, Zayne sees through the eyes of an alternate version of himself, a man known as Dawnbreaker.
Dawnbreaker, also named Zayne, leads a dark and lonely life. In his world, the Wanderers have fully taken over the streets, forcing people to hide in their homes. Some of these Wanderers are merely amalgamations of energy, while others were once human.
Dawnbreaker has decided to hunt down and kill the Wanderers that still possess traces of humanity using his Evol.
Zayne has witnessed every murder committed by Dawnbreaker in his nightmares. Each of these murders haunts him, and although he is not the perpetrator, Zayne still considers Dawnbreaker's victims as his own.
Above all, Zayne is determined never to become Dawnbreaker, whom he sees as a soulless killer.
Desperate to prevent himself from killing anyone and becoming like Dawnbreaker, he dedicates his life to saving lives in the operating room. In addition, he also becomes the MC's primary care doctor to monitor his fragile heart.
Mt. Eternal
When Zayne had just begun practicing at Akso Hospital, he was called as a medical reserve for a rescue mission in the Arctic. A wave of Wanderers had emerged at Mount Eternal, and many soldiers and Hunters sustained severe injuries.
The situation was so dire that the best of the best were called to aid in the rescue efforts. Zayne was among the doctors selected for the mission. As wave after wave of injured soldiers came in, Zayne and his colleagues treated every patient day and night. Although he rarely slept and felt exhausted, Zayne managed to save many lives.
As the situation on the mountain worsened, a special unit was formed to head to the Protofield center at Mount Eternal and stop the influx of Wanderers for good. Zayne volunteered to join this special operation team, along with his colleague and friend, Dr. William.
The team struggled to climb the mountain, suffering many casualties as they fought for every precious mile. Only half of the team remained when they finally reached the Protofield center. Upon arrival, they immediately prepared the device to seal the Protofield and get ready to destroy it.
However, before the operation was completed, the group was ambushed by powerful Wanderers. Zayne and the others fought bravely to destroy the Protofield.
As the dust (or snow, in this case) began to settle, several team members were injured and had to be evacuated back down the mountain. Thinking everything was alright, the team prepared to leave.
As William went to retrieve equipment from a nearby bunker, Zayne stopped him, realizing that strange glowing blue crystals began to spread from William's chest. William tried to get rid of the crystals, but every time he touched them, the crystals only spread faster until his entire body began to bend and change into a Wanderer.
In fear, William realized he could not save himself. Rather than let the crystals take over and turn him into a monster, William begged Zayne to kill him. Zayne tried repeatedly to freeze the progression of the crystals using his ice Evol, but all his efforts failed.
Zayne was faced with an incredibly difficult decision. He felt thrust into his nightmare, realizing that he was now in Dawnbreaker's position. He struggled to suppress the crystals' progression as much as possible to save his friend, but ultimately, he realized he was powerless to save him.
In the end, Zayne surrendered and used his Evol to kill William. That fateful day continues to haunt Zayne. He never wanted to kill anyone, let alone a friend, and now he lives with the blood on his hands and William's life on his conscience.
However, despite the tragedy at Mount Eternal, Zayne uses William's death as motivation to find a cure for similar diseases. He and Dr. Noah, a professor and cardiologist who once taught the MC, began researching ways to prevent and reverse someone's transformation into a Wanderer after being infected by the same crystals experienced by William.
