Rent-A-Girlfriend Manga Hits 15 Million Copies Sold
The manga Kanojo, Okarishimasu (Rent-A-Girlfriend) has surpassed 15 million copies in total sales. Author Reiji Miyajima announced the milestone on X (formerly Twitter) and released commemorative artwork.
The artwork features the heroine, Chizuru, in a cute one-piece dress, with the caption “The 15 Million Copy Woman.”
The series, serialized in Weekly Shōnen Magazine (Kodansha) since July 2017, follows Kenya Kinoshita, a slacker college student living in Tokyo, who falls for Chizuru—a stunning “rental girlfriend” (レンカノ). She’s actually a plain girl at his university, and Ken must keep her true identity a secret while navigating his feelings. The two get into trouble, help each other out, and drag their families, friends, and even his ex into their chaotic “rental” rom-com.
With 15 million copies sold, the series has spawned four anime seasons (2020, 2022, 2023, 2025) and a live-action drama in 2022. A fifth season is set to air in 2026.
