Billy Coen's Fate May Be Revealed at the 30th Anniversary Resident Evil Exhibition!

For loyal fans of the Resident Evil series, the name Billy Coen always raises a big question mark. As one of the main protagonists in Resident Evil Zero, Billy is a very beloved character but seems to have been "erased" from history after his debut. However, a new announcement regarding the 30th anniversary celebration of the series brings new hope for fans who want to know the fate of the former convict.

Who is Billy Coen?

Billy Coen is a former Marine Lieutenant with a dark background. He was sentenced to death on charges of massacring civilians during a military mission in Africa—a crime he actually did not commit alone or purely of his own will.

Billy’s fate changed when the military vehicle taking him to the execution site was attacked by a pack of Cerberus (zombie dogs) in the Arklay Mountains. During his escape, Billy met Rebecca Chambers, a young member of the S.T.A.R.S. Bravo Team. Although initially suspicious of each other, they were forced to work together to survive the bio-organic weapon (BOW) attack on the Ecliptic Express train and Umbrella’s research facility.

At the end of Resident Evil Zero, Rebecca Chambers, realizing that Billy was not a cold-blooded killer, decided to let him escape. Rebecca reported to the authorities that Billy had died in the incident, while keeping Billy’s military dog tags as false evidence. Since then, Billy Coen disappeared into the shadows of the Arklay forest and has never been seen again in any Resident Evil title.

Hope at the 30th Anniversary Resident Evil Exhibition

After decades of silence, a breakthrough came with the announcement of a large-scale exhibition titled "THE WORLD OF BIOHAZARD 30th Anniversary Exhibition" scheduled to be held in Shibuya in Fall 2026.

This exhibition is not just an ordinary nostalgia event. The organizers stated that this will be the first exhibition to deeply revisit the "history of fear and infection" over three decades. What interests Billy Coen fans is the promise that the exhibition will "dig into elements never discussed before, such as the character’s background and unknown production background."

With a focus on expanding the series’ world and the origin of the t-Virus, this exhibition opens a big opportunity for Capcom to reveal secret documents or additional information about "missing" characters, including Billy Coen.
