Onimusha: Way of the Sword Releases on September 25, Demo Now Available

Capcom has officially announced that Onimusha: Way of the Sword will be released on September 25 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. Along with the announcement, Capcom also released a demo that is playable starting today, allowing players to try the early part of the story before the full version launches.

The arrival of this game marks the return of Onimusha as a new main entry after a long hiatus. First introduced in 2001, the series is known for its Sengoku-era Japan setting, featuring battles between the Onimusha, young knights endowed with supernatural demonic powers, and the Genma, terrifying creatures seeking to dominate the world.

One of the series' greatest attractions is its satisfying sword action, especially the signature counterattack system called “Issen” that makes combat feel fast, sharp, and intense. Additionally, Onimusha is also known for blending Japanese history, dark fantasy, a chilling atmosphere, and dramatic stories centered around fate and the struggle for survival.

Over the years, the franchise has not only been known through games but has also expanded into other media, including an original Netflix animated series. Globally, the Onimusha series has sold more than 8.7 million copies, showcasing the strong appeal of this franchise among fans.

In Onimusha: Way of the Sword, players will be transported to Kyoto at the beginning of the Edo period, which has been transformed into a dark realm due to miasma, a toxic fog that damages the environment and gives rise to supernatural threats. Amid this grim setting, players will explore eerie locations while facing various Genma with bizarre and terrifying forms.

The story centers on a samurai who wears the Oni Gauntlet, a legendary gauntlet that serves as the source of his main power. As he cuts down enemies and fights his way through Kyoto, he becomes entangled in a dark fantasy tale also influenced by the fate of the inhabitants of this cursed land.
