Resident Evil: Outbreak Online Server Restoration Project Sees Player Surge After Resident Evil 9 Announcement
Following the announcement of Resident Evil Requiem, the Obsrv.org community’s Resident Evil: Outbreak online server restoration project experienced a significant increase in player numbers.

Resident Evil Outbreak is a survival horror game developed by Capcom, released exclusively for the PlayStation 2. This game has two main series:
- Resident Evil Outbreak (File #1) – Released in 2003 (JPN), 2004 (US)
- Resident Evil Outbreak File #2 – Released in 2004 (JPN), 2005 (US)
Both games were designed as online spin-offs from the main Resident Evil series, focusing on cooperative online multiplayer — something very revolutionary at the time.
Outbreak takes place before and during the events of Resident Evil 2 & 3, specifically in Raccoon City, which is being destroyed by the T-virus outbreak from the Umbrella Corporation.
Instead of main characters like Leon or Jill, you play as a group of ordinary civilians who must work together to survive zombies, B.O.W. (Bio-Organic Weapons), and other deadly situations.
Player Surge in Resident Evil: Outbreak Server Restoration Project Following Resident Evil 9 Announcement
Data from the Outbreak Server Resurrection forum shows online users reaching nearly 1900 users and over 1800 guest visitors.
This is a fantastic figure for a fan-made server that has been running since 2014 and usually experiences smaller activity. In fact, the highest online user record reached 5635 players on June 7, 2025, indicating growing interest.
Many longtime Resident Evil Outbreak fans were inspired to return to Resident Evil Outbreak due to the announcement of Grace Ashcroft as a new character closely related to the old character Alyssa Ashcroft. Alyssa Ashcroft is not an ordinary character. In Resident Evil Outbreak 1 and 2, Alyssa was a journalist reporter who served as one of the survivors of the Raccoon City disaster. In Resident Evil lore, Alyssa officially remains alive until 2016, as seen from newspaper articles in Resident Evil 7.
Now, with Grace as Alyssa's daughter appearing in Resident Evil 9, this directly connects the old story with the new storyline. For the community still actively playing Resident Evil Outbreak, this is very nostalgic news while also opening the opportunity to reengage with the classic Resident Evil world they love.
