PSVR2 Can Play Without a Controller!
Playing PlayStation without a controller is becoming a reality, as PSVR2 has introduced a new feature that allows playing games using hand motion tracking.
This new capability was introduced by Sony in a demo at the Siggraph Asia 2024 exhibition in Tokyo.
In the demo, it was seen that players could use just hand movements to play a mini game themed around cleaning in a virtual world. It seems that Sony is utilizing the camera on the PSVR2 headset to detect hand movements and translate them into game controls.
According to information at the demo booth, this headset from Sony can detect tracking rates of up to 60 fps, meaning the camera can translate fast movements into the game. Moreover, this capability is supported by low latency, allowing all hand movements to be immediately registered in the game without significant lag.
Additionally, this technology can now detect about 12 types of hand movements. If translated into controller language, players could use 12 button combinations while playing later.
