Resident Evil Requiem: Everything Revealed at Gamescom 2025
Capcom brought many surprises to Gamescom 2025, one of which was the Resident Evil Requiem gameplay demo that was first shown to visitors.

From circulating clips to direct impressions from visitors, this demo provides a clear picture of the atmosphere, characters, and game mechanics that will make franchise fans excited. Here is the complete summary.
Gameplay demo: tense atmosphere and perspective differences
In the demo, Capcom showcased several key moments: exploration scenes, encounters with large monsters, and a comparison between First-Person and Third-Person modes, two play styles previously announced.
First-Person: feels much scarier. The environment is designed to pressure the player, with a narrow viewpoint and visual touches that make jump scares and monster chases feel intense. When Grace meets a large creature and is chased, the fear when playing from this perspective increases significantly.
Third-Person: offers a wider perspective and although still tense, provides a slightly different horror sensation. The advantage: we can see Grace’s expressions and movements when panicking or falling while running, adding an emotional dimension to the character.
Gameplay: exploration, puzzles, and stealth
The demo confirms that classic Resident Evil elements remain present: searching for items (such as fuses and special keys), solving puzzles, and moments of hiding from large enemies who continuously check the area. However, an important note from the Gamescom demo: the handgun shooting system was not seen in the gameplay demo shown, which only featured non-lethal actions like throwing bottles to distract monsters. This gives the impression that Requiem emphasizes tension, stealth, and escape rather than weapon confrontation in some moments.
Core story: Grace and Alyssa, relationships, threats, and mysteries
The trailer played at the event highlights the relationship between Grace and her mother, Alyssa Ashcroft. Some key points:
Grace appears busy with her work (often using a laptop) and initially somewhat indifferent to the dangers threatening them.
Alyssa, a journalist and survivor of the Raccoon City incident with survival experience, looks more alert, trying to protect Grace and appears to be preparing a handgun. Alyssa’s previous experience is a strong reason why she and Grace can face critical situations.
The trailer shows moments when Alyssa tries to escape with Grace from a hotel and hints that Alyssa later dies in the incident. Grace is left with many questions, including the possibility of her mother’s involvement with parties targeting them.
Characters: Grace, Alyssa, and a mysterious figure
Grace Ashcroft: depicted as having a fearful nature before becoming an FBI agent; this trait is clearly seen in the trailer and demo from the flashlight vibrations to panic reactions when chased. However, she also shows a strong emotional bond with her mother.
Alyssa Ashcroft: as a Raccoon City survivor, Alyssa has a background of survival experience and performance shown when facing threats. The trailer depicts her as a protective figure who is key to the story.
Mysterious man: a figure in a black cloak with pale skin appears in the trailer, but his identity remains concealed by Capcom. This figure adds an element of mystery and possibly a greater antagonist behind the hotel incident.
Timeline and narrative speculation
The trailer clips seem to show events before Alyssa’s death at the hotel, moments that players will also experience, sometimes alongside Alyssa. There is an indication the story will explore past incidents (about 8 years ago according to clip interpretation), as well as Alyssa’s connection to mysterious bioterrorism events. However, the exact relationship between Requiem’s timeline and other Resident Evil series has not yet been confirmed by Capcom.
