Samsung Launches Z Fold 7 & Z Flip 7: Thin, Light Folds Powered by AI
Samsung has just introduced the latest generation of its foldable phone lineup Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7, as well as a more affordable version Z Flip 7 FE at the Unpacked event.

Galaxy Z Fold 7 now has a thickness of only 8.9 mm when closed, slimming down to 4.2 mm when open, thinner and lighter than its predecessor, weighing just about ~215 g. Its screen has also been expanded: 6.5 inches on the cover, and 8 inches inside, giving the impression of a mini tablet.
Powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy, this phone supports the AI ecosystem in One UI 8 based on Android 16. It features a 200 MP main sensor, similar to the Galaxy S25 Ultra, complete with ultra-wide and telephoto cameras.
The Z Flip 7 now has a 4.1-inch additional screen that can serve as an interaction center without opening the phone, the battery is increased to 4,300 mAh and it already supports Samsung DeX and Gemini Assistant.
The FE version is offered as a lower-priced option at $899, with 12 GB RAM and 128 GB storage. Samsung increasingly emphasizes integrated Galaxy AI features with Google Gemini, including functionalities like Now Brief, Gemini Live, and Circle to Search during gameplay. This step demonstrates Samsung's strategy to strengthen AI hub via mobile devices.
Although Apple is expected to launch foldable iPhones only in 2026, rumors suggest they are preparing innovative OLED panels, such as in-cell touch, foldable screens co-created with Samsung, and an inner display size of 7.8 inches.
However, so far Samsung has “shaken” the market share with mature models that are thin, light, and supported by advanced AI, strongly signaling that classic competitors like Apple must catch up.
Pricing & Availability, Z Fold 7 is priced starting at $1,999, Z Flip 7 at $1,099, Z Flip 7 FE around $899. All these phones are available for pre-order at the event and will be available starting July 25, 2025.
Samsung clearly establishes itself as a pioneer in mainstream foldable devices, balancing design, AI performance, and price. On one hand, this poses a challenge for Apple to present foldable devices that are not only innovative but also complete with screens, AI, and ecosystems that meet premium market expectations.
