Officially Released Spotify Lossless: How to Activate & Enjoy FLAC Quality Music
Spotify officially launched the Lossless feature for Premium users. Enjoy FLAC quality music streaming up to 24-bit/44.1 kHz and learn how to activate it on your device.

Spotify finally brings Lossless audio to Premium users in several markets, a feature long awaited by many listeners. With Lossless, Spotify offers the highest audio quality option (FLAC) so you can hear richer details in your favorite songs and albums.
“The wait is finally over, we are very excited Lossless is now available for Premium customers,” — Gustav Gyllenhammar, VP Subscriptions, Spotify.
What is Lossless on Spotify?
Lossless on Spotify means music can be played without data loss (lossless) using the FLAC format up to 24-bit / 44.1 kHz. This reveals sound details previously hidden in regular compressed bitrates, making instrument textures, vocal breaths, and song dynamics feel more alive.
Key Features
- Highest quality: FLAC streaming up to 24-bit/44.1 kHz.
- Full control: Separate quality settings for Wi-Fi, cellular, and downloads (options: Low, Normal, High, Very High, Lossless).
- Data transparency: Spotify shows estimated data usage per option so you can choose what fits.
- Gradual rollout: Launched gradually to over 50 markets by October, with some countries already receiving early access.
Supported Devices
Lossless is available on the Spotify app for mobile, desktop, and tablet, as well as on many devices supporting Spotify Connect — including brands like Sony, Bose, Samsung, Sennheiser, and others. Spotify also says support for additional devices (e.g., Sonos, Amazon) will follow soon.
How to Activate Lossless
To enable Lossless in the Spotify app:
- Tap the profile icon (top left corner).
- Go to Settings & Privacy → Media Quality.
- Choose where you want to activate Lossless: Wi-Fi, Cellular, or Downloads.
Note: Lossless must be manually enabled on each device. If active, the Lossless indicator will appear on the Now Playing screen or Connect Picker.
Technical Notes & Usage Tips
- Best connection: For optimal experience, stream Lossless over Wi-Fi using wired headphones or speakers (non-Bluetooth) via Spotify Connect.
- Bluetooth — not suitable yet: Bluetooth connections generally do not provide enough bandwidth for Lossless audio, requiring compression and will not transmit the original lossless file.
- Larger file size: Lossless files are larger—songs may take a little initial time to start playing until the cache fills. After caching, playback will be smooth.
- Data & storage: Enable Lossless on connections or downloads only if you are ready for higher data usage and storage capacity.
When Can You Start Listening?
The rollout is gradual to over 50 markets through October. Some markets already gaining access include: Australia, Austria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, Netherlands, Portugal, Sweden, United States, and United Kingdom.
With the addition of Lossless, Spotify raises the audio quality standard for Premium customers while maintaining user control over data and listening experience. If you are an audio enthusiast or want to hear more detail from your favorite songs, activate Lossless on your device and enjoy music in clearer, richer quality.
