Square Enix creates new rules to protect their employees from fan attacks
Due to numerous attacks from fans who dislike decisions in the game, Square Enix has finally created new rules to protect their employees.
These new rules were released on the company's official website and include several examples of threats and actions that will be taken against the offenders. Starting from limiting and cutting access to the game, stopping services, to bringing this case to the legal realm, all of these are options they can take.
Threats that are considered dangerous usually include violence, both physical and verbal, sexual harassment, disruptive business activities, invasion of privacy, and requests for refunds for products that have been purchased without clear reasons.
These rules are also based on the laws applicable in Japan and will be adjusted to the laws in other countries. Therefore, there is a possibility that these rules will also be extended to Square Enix branches outside Japan in the future.
It seems that one of the reasons for the emergence of stricter rules to protect employees is the numerous extreme attacks from fans. Especially from those who are fanatic about certain characters in Final Fantasy, such as Tifa and Aerith, who cannot accept any unfavorable events happening to their favorite characters.
