Tencent and CATL Accused of Being Chinese Military Companies by the US
As we know, Tencent is a major technology company from China with significant influence in the technology sector, especially as one of the main investors in the video game industry.
According to a report from Bloomberg, the US Department of Defense has just labeled Tencent as a Chinese military company.
It turns out that Tencent is not the only company to receive this label. The Chinese battery company, Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL), has also been branded as a military company by the US Department of Defense.
Knowing this situation, both companies are trying to find ways to not be considered military firms in China. Danny Marti, Tencent's Spokesperson, issued an official statement regarding this matter.
Danny Marti stated that his company is not a military company or a military supplier. He also explained that this designation does not impact their business, even though it is not like sanctions or export controls. Nevertheless, they continue to try to address this misunderstanding with the US Department of Defense.
Fred Zhang, CATL's Spokesperson, also made a similar statement to Danny Marti. Both are working to clarify the misunderstanding from the American side, asserting that their company is not a military firm in China and has no connection with such activities.
