The Super Mario Galaxy Movie New Trailer Reveals Yoshi, Luigi, and Baby Mario
Nintendo has finally confirmed one of the biggest surprises for Mario fans. On January 25, 2026, through an official broadcast titled “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Direct 2026.1.25” on Nintendo's YouTube channel, several new details from The Super Mario Galaxy Movie were officially revealed to the public.
This CG animated film is scheduled to be released on April 1 & 24, 2026 and will be a direct sequel to the globally successful The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023). Previously, Nintendo had confirmed the presence of important characters such as Rosalina and Bowser Jr., but the latest trailer brings much bigger surprises.
One of the most attention-grabbing moments in the latest trailer is the appearance of Yoshi. After previously only being “teased” with a Yoshi egg at the end of the first film, the iconic character has now truly appeared in this sequel. Yoshi’s presence simultaneously ends the long speculation of fans who have been waiting for him since 2023.
Along with the trailer, Nintendo also released a third visual poster that specifically features Yoshi, indicating his quite important role in the story.
Birdo, Frog Luigi, and Baby Mario & Luigi Also Appear
Not only Yoshi, but this trailer also showcases a lineup of other fan-favorite characters. Birdo (Catherine)—known since Super Mario Bros.: The Great Mission to Rescue Princess Peach!—finally joins the Mario movie universe.
In addition, Frog Luigi also appears wearing the Frog Suit from Super Mario Bros. 3, complete with his signature style. Perhaps even more surprisingly, Baby Mario and Baby Luigi are introduced, expanding the exploration of the Mario world across generations.
Iconic Super Scope Weapon Takes Center Stage
Another interesting detail is the Super Scope-like weapon seen held by Yoshi. The Super Scope itself is a classic peripheral for the Super Famicom (Super Nintendo). One of the iconic games that supported this device was Yoshi’s Safari, where players ride Yoshi while shooting enemies—a nostalgic reference likely intended by the production team.
Orchestral Music and Other Classic Character Cues
During the presentation, Shigeru Miyamoto (Nintendo) and Chris Meledandri (Illumination) were present to provide production updates. Meledandri revealed that the film’s soundtrack will incorporate melodies from the Super Mario Galaxy series, recorded using an orchestra of 70 musicians to provide a stronger epic feel.
Meanwhile, Miyamoto hinted that Yoshi is not the only classic character who will appear, opening up the possibility of more surprises in the film.
A Sequel Full of Nostalgia
Considering the previous film successfully blended music from various Super Mario series and featured nostalgic characters like Spike (Foreman Spike from Wrecking Crew™), the sequel The Super Mario Galaxy Movie appears to be continuing a similar approach—but on a larger scale.
With a lineup of new characters, grand orchestral music, and deep references to Mario’s gaming history, this film has the potential to be one of the most ambitious game adaptations ever made.
