Anime Kagurabachi Announced to Air in April 2027, First Official PV Released
The manga Kagurabachi by Takeru Hokazono has officially been confirmed to be adapted into a television anime scheduled to air from April 2027. Along with the announcement, the production team also released a teaser visual, the first PV, and information about the voice actors and main staff involved in this project.
The main character Chihiro Rokuhira will be voiced by Taibi Kimura, who previously won the Best New Actor Award at the 20th Seiyu Awards. The anime will be directed by Tetsuya Takeuchi, with Keigo Sasaki as the character designer, while the animation process will be handled by Studio Cypic.
Kagurabachi tells the story of Chihiro Rokuhira, a young man who aspires to become a swordsmith like his father. His peaceful life takes a drastic turn when his father is murdered by a mysterious sorcerer organization called Hishaku. During the attack, six magical swords that have a significant influence on the fate of the country are stolen, and Chihiro loses his peaceful life. From that moment on, he wields the seventh magical sword left by his father, Enten, and embarks on a bloody journey of revenge.
Takeru Hokazono's name has risen rapidly thanks to Kagurabachi, which became his first serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump since September 2023. The manga's popularity has soared globally, including on the MANGA Plus by SHUEISHA platform, where its first chapter topped the global rankings in views just one week after its English version was released. By August 2024, the series also secured the top spot in the comics category of the Next Manga Awards 2024. With the release of Volume 11 on May 1st, its total circulation has even surpassed 4 million copies.
Teaser Visual and PV Showcase the World of Kagurabachi
The released teaser visual features three koi fish named Aka, Kuro, and Nishiki swimming in the background, while Chihiro stands in the foreground holding the magical sword Enten. His sharp and determined expression reinforces the impression that this story will be filled with intense conflict and action.
Meanwhile, the teaser PV opens with a scene in a blacksmith's workshop, emphasizing that the sword-making process is one of the key elements of the story. With a Japanese setting blending modern and traditional elements, the promotional video successfully builds a dark and tense atmosphere while introducing the unique world of Kagurabachi.
Main Staff and Global World Tour
In addition to the air date announcement, the anime's core staff was also introduced. Tetsuya Takeuchi is previously known for handling action animation in Sword Art Online II and various key scenes in Heavenly Delusion. Meanwhile, Keigo Sasaki has a strong track record through his work on Blue Exorcist and The Seven Deadly Sins.
Moreover, a global world tour for the Kagurabachi anime has been announced. Starting this summer, the first 20 minutes of episode 1 will be screened at various anime events worldwide. The tour will culminate in Japan with a special event featuring guest appearances and a full screening of the premiere episode before the official broadcast begins.
