Netflix Announces Season 2 of Stranger Things: Tales from '85, Premiering in 2026
Netflix has officially confirmed that the second season of the animated series Stranger Things: Tales from '85 will be released globally in the fall of 2026. This announcement has garnered even more attention as the first season is currently still airing and offers a new perspective on the Stranger Things universe through stories focused on the "lost time" not shown in the original live-action series.
Set Between Seasons 2 and 3, The story of Stranger Things: Tales from '85 is set in Hawkins during the winter of 1985, positioned between the second and third seasons of the main series. With the town covered in snow, familiar characters like Mike, Will, Dustin, Lucas, Max, and Eleven return to face a new threat that is just as dangerous.
The first season retains the signature Stranger Things blend of 1980s pop culture with thriller and supernatural elements. At the same time, this animated series also introduces original characters and new mysterious entities. One of the emerging threats is a strange life form that evolves into an immortal creature by switching hosts, adding a new layer of tension to Hawkins.
Amidst various bizarre events, these young characters once again seek answers and try to uncover the secrets hidden behind the Upside Down.
New Characters and Story Expansion
In addition to familiar faces, the series also introduces a new character named Nikki, a transfer student with a keen interest and abilities in science and inventions. Her presence expands the story dynamics and takes the adventure in a bigger and more unpredictable direction.
Newly released images also show Mike and his friends discovering an overturned truck in the snowy forest, hinting that an old threat may resurface and bring new chaos.
Duffer Brothers Highlight the Freedom of the Animated Format
The Duffer Brothers, creators of the original series and executive producers of this project, believe that the animated format opens up much broader storytelling opportunities. They stated that animation has no limits, allowing the creative team to work more freely and present things that might be difficult to achieve in a live-action format.
According to them, this freedom will enable Stranger Things: Tales from '85 to surprise audiences in new ways while maintaining the signature vibe that has made the franchise popular.
New Project The Boroughs Also Announced
In addition to updates on Stranger Things: Tales from '85, the Duffer Brothers are also working on another project titled The Boroughs. This series is rumored to focus on elderly characters facing mysterious phenomena, offering a different storytelling approach from their previous works.
The project is scheduled for release on May 21 and is one of the new works to look forward to from this creative duo.
